Biography

After immersing himself in the burgeoning dance scene in London during the early nineties, Tim Scott took his DJing and musical skills with him to Liverpool in 1994 where he continued to spin music. He enjoyed plenty of gigs during this time; however his record collection then lay dormant for a few years before picking up where he left off again in 2002.

Re-inspired by the slow emergence of the nu-jazz and broken beat scene that was fusing together the genres he loved, Tim's style is to join the dots between different sounds in an exciting fashion. Heavily influenced by the sounds he heard as a regular at the then new That's How It Is in London with Messrs Peterson, Lavelle and Wilcox and dancing the night away at the Blue Note, Tim was immediately attracted to left-of-centre dance music and the acid jazz scene.

Today his musical taste is as broad as ever, and his ability to juxtapose genres is his trump card, best heard in his respected '2types' show on the leading internet radio station Samurai FM (http://www.samurai.fm/2types), which has also featured interviews with musical heavyweight guests such as Platinum Pied Pipers, Domu, Mark de Clive Lowe and Alex Attias.

DJ-ing is far from being the sole focus of Tim's creativity; he has been making music of one sort or another since a neighbour first lent him a guitar at the tender age of 6. Having discovering the joys of Cubase on his school’s Atari ST, he produces computer-based music inspired by the many diverse influences that also come through in his DJ sets.

Tim's productions are unpredictable and range from soulful slow burners to all out dancefloor destroyers. He has worked on a number of remix projects including contributing to the ‘Filewile Remixed’ double LP for Switzerland’s leading laptop pioneers Filewile. They liked the remix so much, they chose it as one of their four favourites to release on the promotional 12”. A collaboration with US soul singer Shu led to the vocalist describing the resulting tune as ‘absolute fire!!!’

Original beats have been made available through well-received EPs on Jonny Miller’s Jus’ Listen label, Liverpool’s own Blue City and Universal Vibes. More fresh beats will soon be forthcoming from Sick Trumpet and there’s a Tim Scott remix EP on the way, also with Universal Vibes.  Tim is currently working on his first full-length project, due for release in 2009.

With play and support for Tim’s productions coming from Mr Scruff, Laurent Garnier, The Unabombers (Xfm), Benji B (BBC 1Xtra), Kevin Beadle (Solar Radio), Enrique Domenech (Fusionova021), Simon Harrison (Basic Soul) and Phat Phil Cooper (Sick Trumpet) to name just a few, his musical taste is as broad as ever, so whether he’s DJing or in the studio, watch out for thumping beats, squelchy basslines and jazzy antics…
